Bomtempo, Joao

Joao Domingos Bomtempo(1775-1842), Portuguese composer. Had lessons from his father, in 1801 he went to Paris, where he established himself as a pianist and composer. Moved to London in 1810, settling in Lisbon in 1820, founded a Philharmonic Society which gave Lisbon's first public concert, and in 1835 he became director of the new conservatory. He composed 2 symphonies, 6 piano concertos, sacred music, piano pieces.
