Bottesini, Giovanni

Giovanni Bottesini(1821-1889), Italian double bass player, conductor and composer. He studied double bass at the Milan Conservatory, played in orchestra, eventually became a concert soloist and conductor. Chosen by Verdi to conduct the premiere of Aida at Cairo in 1871. On Verdi's recommendation, he was made director of Parma Conservatory in 1889. He composed several concertos, operas, and chamber music.
