Bruckner, Anton

Anton (Joseph) Bruckner(1824-1896), Austrian composer, first music lesson from his father, a choirboy at the nearby monastery, then studied at the Vienna Conservatory. During 1860's he became acquainted with Wagner's music, which was to be a major liberating influence. He taught at the University of Vienna and Vienna Conservatory. He composed 10 symphonies, Masses, Requiems, songs and chamber music.
